Well-made in Wellington: a real ale treat this Saturday
A trip to Pete and Liz Arden’s excellent Wrekin Tap at The Cock Hotel is always a pleasure. The beer, from around Shropshire and beyond, is always brilliantly kept; the staff are friendly; your fellow-drinkers are usually a nice crowd to find yourself amongst; and all this is wrapped up in a sturdy, snug, hop-festooned old Georgian posting house.
Visit on Saturday evening and it’ll be even better than usual, because it’s the venue for ale taster Jerry Baily’s evening real ale reception, which rounds off this year’s Charter Day (see the post below). And if that wasn’t enough, Wellington’s secret brewer Ken Finney is providing a specially-named barrel of his beer brewed just across town at his licensed micro-brewery (that is, his garage). So, if you want a to sample a pint of special edition ‘Market Charter’, you know where to come.
Jerry, the Mayor and other such exhalted personages will be there from 5.30pm (a nice early start to catch shopkeepers on their way home) so turn up from then and you’ll find some friendly faces to greet you.
