Trading up… new farmers’ market a big success!
This Saturday saw the second outing for Wellington’s revived farmers’ market. The first, last month, had been short on stalls – the clash with Shifnal’s market didn’t help, and one stall holder who’d booked three whole pitches didn’t show. But this month’s market, on the fourth weekend of the month and much better promoted to local traders – was a big improvement. Here are a few photos…
The Square was brought to life. It was full, it was bustling – for four hours, it was a place people were spending time in, rather than just passing straight through. The shoppers were smiling, and so were the stallholders – the ones I spoke to had a very good day of trading.
Those of us who’ve been urging the Market Company to relaunch this event knew it could be a success, and just two sessions in and it’s clear that Wellington Farmers’ Market can become a fantastic addition to the town’s calendar. By next month, Sounds in The Square will have finished for the season, freeing up more space for stalls. So, if you’re a local food producer and would like to get in on the action whilst there’s still room, get in touch with market manager Kay Boakye at kayboakye@townandcountrymarkets.co.uk.
