Events
We think that colourful, characterful, quality events can bring a town to life. Every year, Wellington H2A’s small band of volunteers organises events including the popular Wellington Midsummer Fayre; the Sounds in The Square season of live open air music; and The Great Wrekin Barrel Race. Why do we do this? Because it brings people into the town to enjoy the public spaces we might otherwise take for granted; because we want people to see the fantastic musicians, performers, craft and food producers here on our doorstep; and most of all because we think it’s fun.
NOW AVAILABLE: The 2013 Wellington Summer Revels Guide, compiled by H2A, includes details of 40 arts, heritage and community events taking place in and around Wellington between May and September. You can pick one up in local libraries, shops, pubs and restaurants, or download a copy here.
As you’ll see in the Summer Revels Guide, many groups and individuals organise great events throughout the year. The Belfry Theatre stages popular amateur productions and runs a widely respected youth theatre, whilst several music groups - New College Chorale, Wellington Brass Band and the Telfordaires among them – give concerts both in Wellington and further afield. The Literary Festival in October is the biggest in the region and has been attracting famous authors and broadcasters since it started over a decade ago. We post about these local arts and cultural events on the blog, reminding you about what’s going on in and around the town, and we’ll also be exploring ideas for new events that someone out there might feel inspired to have a go at initiating.
